December 2014 saw the Mobile Library celebrate its 30th Anniversary. For over 30 years the mobile library has taken library services out into many diverse communities across the city. Staff would like to hear from anyone who would like to share their memories of the Mobile Library Service. Please look out for the ‘Mobile Memories’ forms to fill in on our vehicle or email your comments directly to us. Thanks to everyone who has supported the service over the years 1984 – 2015
Address: Unit 14, Gravelly Hill Industrial Park, Erdington, Birmingham B24 8HZ
Anybody can join and use the Mobile Library. You do not need a different library card to use the Mobile Library. You can use your existing Birmingham library card on the vehicle, just remember that you can have a maximum of 10 items out at any one time.
The Mobile Library vehicle carries over 3,500 items of stock - for adults, young people and children of all ages. The stock is changed regularly and new items are added daily.
The Mobile Library has access to the full library catalogue and operates a free reservation system for any items you may wish to order. You may return items from other Birmingham libraries at any Mobile library stop ; we will return them for you. The Mobile Library vehicle is fitted with a lift allowing for easy access, please ask staff if you require use of the lift.
The Mobile Library runs to a strict timetable and operates 5 days a week (Tuesday - Saturday). The majority of stops are visited weekly with the exception of stops visited on Wednesdays and Saturdays which are visited on a fortnightly rota (for more details on dates and times of visits plus stop location maps: see Downloads)
The Mobile Library Service cannot deliver directly to individual homes. If you are housebound please contact Library Services at Home on 0121 464 6171 to see if you are eligible for a home delivery.
Please be aware that all Mobile Library stops are subject to review and change throughout the year. The Mobile Library vehicle will endeavour to park in the same spot on each visit. This may not always be possible due to road works and parked cars. The vehicle will park in the safest location as close to the regular spot on these occasions. The Mobile Library vehicle may have to cancel stops at short notice due to inclement weather conditions or essential vehicle servicing dates(MOTs etc). Please make sure staff have your contact telephone number if you wish to be informed of stop cancelations. Staff will try to ensure as little disruption to the schedule as possible.

Book Bus Blog
The Mobile Library Service provides a varied programme of activities and competitions throughout the year for children and young adults. The children and young adults that use the service regularly enjoy creating artwork for display on the Mobile library vehicle and staff invite young readers to review books that they have enjoyed reading. The new Book Bus Blog is designed to highlight all the wonderful work that our young users have done and continue to do. The Mobile Library staff will post reviews and artwork on the Book Bus Blog for everyone to enjoy.
Some future initiatives planned for 2015 – The Mobile Library’s 30th Birthday year are :
• Mobile Library Birthday Bookmark competition
• Portrait Competition – open to young and old. We want to create a visual snapshot of our regular customers.
• Mobile Memories – Customers are being invited to share their memories of using the Mobile Library over the years.
