The Reading Chain is a book review group at Library Services at Home. We are a tailored library service delivering reading materials to those who find it difficult to visit their local library. Each month our members send in a review of their favourite book which they rate as ‘Just my cup of tea’ along with a biscuit dunking rating out of five!
The Cat Who Sniffed Glue - Lilian Jackson Braun This book is in a series but you can read them out of sequence. It’s set in America and is full of fun and intrigue. It’s set in the fictitious town of Mooseville and the main character is a journalist called Qwill who has a salt and pepper moustache. His side kicks, Pepper and Yum Yum, are two Siamese cats that have an uncanny way of assisting Qwill towards solving the various goings on.

I love North Yorkshire where this is set and the period it covers. A happy real life story to keep me happy!

Edith - Sutton.
Bad Chili - Joe R. Lansdale
Old buddies Hap Collins and Leonard Pine take the law into their own hands when a friend goes missing and the police show little interest in finding him. Things go from bad to worse as our heroes find themselves unravelling a plot involving extortion, torture and murder. Lansdale comes across as an X-rated Raymond Chandler with this fast paced modern day thriller. The humour is very broad; much of it due to the banter between the two main protagonists, and the violence is realistic and shocking. Bad Chili is not for everyone, but if you enjoy tough Tarantinoesque escapades it’s a fun read.
