“Something Old Something New”
Balsall Heath Library is an iconic building that opened as a ‘free library’ in 1895, which pre dates the iconic Moseley Public Baths.
Third year BCU Event & Exhibition Management students are helping the library to celebrate 120 years by creating “Something Old Something New” a free community event taking place on the 10th December 2016 with drop in activity sessions from 10-1pm then 2-4pm.
The theme of the event “Something Old Something New” explores the way people like to spend their leisure time in the community. The event will include Arts and crafts, Board games, Wii games, computers and a chance for the community to get involved with film making, as well as an exciting opportunity to learn more about the community and library by Balsall Heath Local History Society.
The library manager Abas Ali commented on the event “The event will provide the local community with a chance to use the greatly improved children’s library. There will be plenty going on during the day – should prove to be a momentous occasion for Balsall Heath.”
The library has recently had a brand new refurbishment of the children’s section thanks to The Wolfston foundation funding, the support has enabled the library to provide new equipment including a Wii and plasma screen TV for library members to use.
The BCU students have created an event utilising this new equipment as well as sourcing old activites. The event aim is to bring the community together in this new space where children and families can socialise and build friendships within this iconic historical building.
